Keyboard Shutdown: How to Shut Down a Laptop with Keyboard Shortcuts

You can shut down a laptop using keyboard shortcuts on most Windows and macOS systems. Here's how to do it for both operating systems:

For Windows:

1. Windows Key + X: Press the Windows key and the X key simultaneously to open the Quick Access menu (also known as the Power User menu).

2. U: After opening the Quick Access menu, press the letter "U." This action will open a submenu.

3. U or S or I or H: Depending on your version of Windows, you may need to press one of these keys:

   • "U" for Shut Down.
   • "S" for Sleep.
   • "I" for Sign Out.
   • "H" for Hibernate.

   In this case, press "U" for "Shut Down."

For macOS:

1. Control + Option + Command + Eject: On most Macs with a physical Eject key (or Power key on newer Macs), press Control + Option + Command + Eject simultaneously.

   On Macs with the Touch Bar, you can use a different shortcut:
